Swedish TV4 Signs Up The Biggest TV Deal Of Volvo Ocean Race

The biggest Swedish TV production in 35-year history of the Volvo Ocean Race has been signed with TV4

Sweden’s TV4 has committed to providing the most extensive coverage by any broadcaster in the history of the race. They will present ‘live’ their regular breakfast programme News Morning from three stopover ports: Alicante, Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro. Their TV studio will be part of the Volvo Pavilion which is set up in each port.

The international weekly highlights programme will be customised for the Swedish audience and scheduled at 11pm on Mondays as well as at 6pm on the TV4 Sports channel. TV4 will also send correspondents to all the other stopover ports providing news stories and features for regular news programmes.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome TV4 and we are looking forward to working closely with them during the course of the race to ensure that this unique opportunity is exploited to the full, ” said Harold Anderson, Executive Editor for the Volvo Ocean Race.

“We´ve got a strong belief in the race as being one of the most dramatic events in the world of sports. The global character of the race also gives us new and exciting possibilities to cover politics, people and culture around the world, “ said Andreas Haglind, Executive Director for the Morning News show at TV4.

International distribution of programming for this year’s race is at an advanced stage. All indications are that audience numbers will exceed those achieved in the 2005-6 Volvo Ocean Race. Thirty-nine half hour weekly programmes, nine monthly one hour programme and a comprehensive news coverage package promise to make this race the most watched ever.

Countries broadcasting the event include terrestrial channels such as TVE2 in Spain, Channel 4 (UK), 7TV and NTV (Russia), TV3 and TG4 (Ireland), NDR (Germany), LA 7 (Italy), TV2 (Norway), Canal Plus in France and many others. Satellite and Cable viewers will be able to tune in Europe, Eastern Europe, Canada, Latin America, Middle East and Asia.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Starting from Alicante in Spain, on 4 October 2008 with in-port racing, it will, for the first time, take in Cochin, India, Singapore and Qingdao, China before finishing in St Petersburg, Russia for the first time in the history of the race. Spanning some 37,000 nautical miles, stopping at 11 ports and taking nine months to complete, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world’s premier yacht race for professional racing crews. •

Partnership will allow service providers to deliver next generation video services over mobile and broadband networks

MobiTV, Inc., (advanced mobile and broadband IP Video distribution technology), and Media Excel, (advanced real-time video encoding and transcoding solutions), today announced a strategic partnership agreement to jointly offer advanced video delivery capabilities to service providers. Mobile World Congress – Innovation Zone

The first user-friendly mobile application to seamlessly create and post audio, videos, pictures and text to users’ favorite Web sites

CellSpin Soft, Inc. is demonstrating its free, secure, intelligent, one-click graphical user interface for capturing images, audio, video and text and publishing them to one or many of a user’s favorite blogging, social networking, photo sharing, and auction sites.  The mobile application was introduced to rave reviews in last month at the DEMO Conference, a leading venue for launching exciting new technologies.

CellSpin lets users create content (video, audio, photos and text) on their mobile phone or via the CellSpin Web site, and then post it to their favorite social networks and content-sharing Web sites using an intuitive, single-click interface. CellSpin currently supports sharing media with Facebook, Blogger, YouTube, Picasa, Flickr, Live Journal, Live Spaces and eBay, with more to come.  CellSpin is the first and only application that enables smartphone users to create and post audio and videos to their eBay auctions.

On their smartphone, users select which of the four media types they wish to create from a simple on-screen interface with four intuitive media icons. Then with one click, users upload their content to their favorite social networks and content-sharing Web sites, and share their candid life moments with friends and family instantly, anywhere in the world. Users who do not belong to an online community can post and share media through a CellSpin online profile.

CellSpin provides even those new to the smartphone, or “Mobile 2.0,” revolution the opportunity to share their mobile-created media instantly.  One no longer has to be a technophile to know how to use a mobile phone to post video, audio, photos and text to the Web.

According to Bobby Gurvinder Singh, CEO and co-founder of CellSpin, “The handset is personal, powerful and ubiquitous, and CellSpin is the first to intelligently and elegantly harness the full potential of the Mobile 2.0 phenomenon. Our intuitive interface and powerful underlying technology liberate mobile-created content from the handset, and we provide this solution free to users by leveraging a unique, unobtrusive mobile advertising platform.”

Ease of Use

Unlike any other offering, CellSpin elegantly and seamlessly integrates the creation and secure sharing of voice, video, picture and text between the mobile handset and the Internet without the user having to know any HTML, embedding technologies, widgets, or navigate complex and intrusive middle steps.  This ease of use will allow more people to perform more functions more efficiently on their phones, which in turn benefits advertisers, operators, and OEMs.

CellSpin uses the secure Web services API framework of Facebook, Blogger, YouTube, Picasa, Flickr, Live Journal, Live Spaces and eBay to authenticate the user for each publisher, and never sees or stores the user’s third party username and password. This is critical for financial transaction sites like eBay, to ensure the privacy of each user’s authentication details, and enables a secure bi-directional transfer of data so the user can upload photos, video and audio in real-time to better promote the auction item and further assure authenticity.

CellSpin seamlessly and intelligently synchronizes users’ newly added sites and all their eBay Auctions with the mobile handset and provides the ability to post any media for free on any sites or auctions simultaneously.

Benefits for Advertisers

In contrast to the microscopic ad units available on the mobile Web, CellSpin's full screen ad inventory, enhanced targeting, direct response capabilities, and unobtrusive placements will allow ad networks and advertisers to creatively expand their campaigns.  CellSpin users see a small unobtrusive banner ad on the main screen of the application as they decide which type of media they want to create, and a full screen ad after they post their media.  Advertisers can target users by age, gender and location, and implement direct response campaigns through click-to-call functionality as well as provide a coupon and map to their nearest location.

Benefits for Operators and OEMs

As OEMs continue to build in more functionality (cameras, camcorders, voice recorders), subscribers must learn how to use each of these powerful but disconnected features, and re-learn them with every new handset they purchase.  Unfortunately, because of this steep learning curve, these feature-rich capabilities can intimidate users, resulting in frustration and product returns. For those that do manage to master these new features, media created through this new functionality is typically trapped on the handset.

Because CellSpin integrates all the media available on mobile phones into a seamless application that anyone can intuitively use, it will revolutionize how users interact with their phones and thus drive data usage, ARPU, smartphone demand, and mobile advertising. CellSpin will dramatically change mobile data consumption, by driving the demand for unlimited data packages from users of all ages.  Both “digital natives,” as well as “digital immigrants” who have been reluctant to re-learn how to use a phone, can now easily take advantage of the advanced multimedia functionality of their mobile phones and instantly share the content they create.  As a direct result, both MNOs and OEMs will benefit from the increased demand for smart phones.

CellSpin Soft, Inc is dedicated to making the Mobile 2.0 experience as simple as possible, even as the technology behind it becomes ever more powerful. CellSpin is free to users, and available immediately at CellSpin website.
