SMS Traffic Surpasses 1 billion Barrier in Indonesia on Jinny SMSC

1.4 billon SMS messages handled during 2009/2010 holiday period

Jinny Software, a leading global supplier of messaging and media solutions to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), announces record SMS traffic in Indonesia, during a nine-day holiday period where a Jinny SMSC handled over 1.4 billon messages for a leading Indonesian MNO.

The Indonesian operator involved serves around nine million subscribers – a figure which has grown exponentially since its inception a few years ago. To keep pace with this fast subscriber growth, the MNO has continually expanded the capacity of its messaging systems, which has increased by 1000% from the outset.  The fully distributed and scalable architecture of Jinny’s SMSC has enabled the operator to easily scale up to handle thousands of messages per second by simply adding message processing and signalling processing nodes.

Max Wilkie, CEO of Jinny Software, said, “These transaction results show that our messaging platforms are robust and scalable and able to support very high volume through-put, as well as massive peaks in system demands over short timeframes. Our messaging platforms have been designed from the ground up to scale limitlessly. We are delighted that during this holiday period, a very busy time for all mobile operators worldwide, our system was more than capable of handling the throughput of this leading operator in one of the world’s most prolific texting nations and, indeed, has the capability to process additional transactions as SMS traffic continues to grow.”

Commenting on the Indonesian market in general, John White, Business Development Director at Portio Research, authors of Mobile Messaging Futures 2010-2014, said, “Worldwide, despite tough economic conditions, SMS traffic grew again in 2009 by an impressive 16%. In Indonesia that growth stood at over 38%, more than double the worldwide average, and as of year-end 2009, Indonesia now stands as the fifth largest SMS market in the world measured by traffic volume. Throughout 2009, on average, every one of the 155 million mobile subscribers in Indonesia sent an average of 113 SMS per month, making Indonesia the 15th most SMS-dense market in the world. On any normal day, the average Indonesian sends roughly four messages per person.” • 15-2-10

Jinny Handles 80% of Messaging Traffic in Kenya

SMS traffic reaches peaks of 85 million in a single day

Jinny Software announced today that its SMSC and MMSC platforms now handle 80% of all mobile messaging traffic in Kenya with approximately 14 million subscribers.
Recently reported message traffic peaks for one of the largest operators in the country exceeded 85 million SMSs for New Year’s Eve 2009, and a similar number for New Year’s Day, which highlights the continuing popularity of SMS messaging.

According to Portio Research, the number of total mobile subscribers in Kenya is expected to grow exponentially to 21 million subscribers by the end of 2010. In line with these forecasts, Jinny Software is well positioned to capture an increased share of the SMS and MMS market with its next generation messaging solutions.

The Jinny SMSC and MMSC platforms form part of Jinny’s Next Generation Messaging Solutions. Both are designed to open standards and have been exhaustively tested in commercial deployments around the world. Their product architecture provides the flexibility, features and framework components to help operators evolve their service portfolio to include richer and more interactive messaging solutions. • 15-2-10

Jinny in ‘Top 5’ MMSC Providers Globally

Swift market share grab underlines Jinny's competence

Jinny Software today announced that it is now among the top five MMSC solution providers globally per number of deployments. Its current market position has been independently confirmed by recent market research from Informa Telecoms & Media.

Jinny Software’s position among the top 5 MMSC providers globally underlines the company’s competence and capability in the messaging space. However, more importantly, it illustrates that its longer-term strategy to gain market share in the global MMSC space, followed by the company in the last few years, has resulted in the end goal of significant MMSC ownership.

Max Wilkie, CEO, Jinny Software, said, “I am delighted to see Jinny recognised in its leading position on the global MMSC market radar. It highlights the strategy we followed a number of years ago was the correct one.”

Commenting on the future of the company in the global MMSC space, he added, “We are looking forward to strengthening our global MMSC market position in the coming years. The vision for the MMS market is brighter than it has been since its launch. Year-on-year service usage growth is now steady and many technical interoperability problems have been solved. Higher bandwidth mobile connections are contributing to this increased growth, much of which, in the coming years, will be driven by mobile advertisers who are finding MMS increasingly attractive due to its rich media functionality, making it more suited to their requirements.” • 15-2-10

Growing in the Americas

Jinny’s SMSC to Host Multiple Wireless Carriers Across the Americas

Multiple instances enable rapid deployment of SMS services and greater ROI

Jinny Software today announced that a leading telecoms supplier has selected the Jinny SMSC to host multiple wireless carriers from a single platform across the Americas (North, Central, South America and the Caribbean). The deal also sees the conclusion of a comprehensive supplier agreement between the supplier and Jinny Software.

The platform, which will be based at a data hosting centre in Texas, USA, was selected for its ability to support multiple wireless carriers in several countries across the Americas region. Its capability to distribute ‘demand-based’ capacity among the various instances on a single SMSC and its excellent scalability to support the growth of the various wireless networks into the future, were also key to this success. The platform will initially support WCDMA networks currently being rolled out across the region but all technology types can be supported.

The solution enables the supplier’s local wireless carrier clients to provide SMS services to their subscribers, offering them the ability to manage SMS service subscriptions, billing and customer support without the carriers having to go to the expense or complexity of installing the system in-house. This offers a faster time to market in introducing text messaging and it ensures reduced cost of ownership with greater flexibility. The supplier needed a product that was robust, feature rich, highly scalable and capable of supporting several carriers from a remote location with an individual instance per carrier.  Jinny’s SMSC was an excellent fit for the needs of their clients and that of their hosting centre requirements.

Fintan Supple, Americas Regional Sales Director at Jinny, added, “We are delighted to announce this latest strategic win, which bolsters our position in the Americas market. The selection of our messaging platform for the specific requirements of a hosted environment is testament to the flexibility of our solutions.” • 15-2-10
