International roaming wireless telephone services

Starhome Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Starhome announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Roamware, Inc., AT&T Mobility LLC and T-Mobile USA, Inc., in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Starhome’s Complaint alleges infringement of Starhome’s patents by defendants’ provision of international roaming wireless telephone services to subscribers and telecommunications companies. The Complaint accuses the defendants of infringing United States Patents 6,920,487 and 7,231,431, each entitled “System and Methods for Global Access to Services for Mobile Telephone Subscribers.” Starhome is seeking damages and a judgment enjoining further infringement.

“Starhome’s products and services provide innovative wireless mobility solutions to enhance international roaming,” said Neta Bloch, General Counsel of Starhome. “Starhome appreciates the significant value our patents confer to our business and intends to aggressively protect our rights.”
The Patents cover the core technology of the Starhome® Intelligent Call Assistant® (ICA) solution and the Starhome® Home Short Code™ (HSC) solution, among other services.

The Starhome HSC solution is one of the first and most fundamental roaming solutions of the VHE (virtual home environment) concept. The seamless, feature-rich solution can convert unrecognized home short codes into valid phone numbers and provide mobile operators with a basis to increase their revenue potential from both the inbound and outbound international roaming market.

The Starhome ICA supplements the HSC solution. ICA overcomes international dialing difficulties by automatically correcting or completing misdialled numbers. As the majority of these calls are never redialed, ICA significantly increases roaming revenues for operators. ICA has a rich user interface that, among other capabilities, can allow combinations of seamless call completion, native-language voice interaction and post-dialing SMS notification, and support for prepaid or postpaid communities with respect to both inbound and outbound roamers.

Eitan Achlow, CEO of Starhome explained: “Over the course of the last 10 years, Starhome has spent a considerable amount of time and resources in developing the Home Short Code and the Intelligent Call Assistant solutions, both of which are included in our patent-protected portfolio. Starhome invests heavily in intellectual property and realizes the importance of protecting these innovations and technology.” • 2-6-10

Comarch Satellite Package for satellite internet access providers

In response to the growing needs of satellite broadband providers, Comarch has developed a solution combining pre-integrated CRM, BSS and network management systems. With a unified data model and product catalog across the entire solution, it will meet the requirements of even the most demanding service providers.

What satellite broadband providers are sure to see as an important feature is the solution's ability to fully control and monitor all orders and transactions passing through its layers, from sales channels, billing, back office, to provisioning and fulfillment. Furthermore, although the system's main processes are available out-of-the-box, the flow of orders and other business processes can be easily reconfigured by the customer, depending on the specific business requirements.

This Comarch solution is ideal for both retail and wholesale satellite internet access providers. It helps to achieve a seamless customer experience through offering high quality services, while at the same time facilitating control over operational expenses.

Although the satellite business is currently booming, the market in its present state means it is not guaranteed to continue into the future, and operators have to defend their positions in an already intensely competitive market. Comarch answers those needs by offering a new solution that is perfectly tailored to the requirements of this segment. As the solution is built upon a stable core, it is a safe choice for every satellite broadband provider, yet it also offers flexibility and modularity still unique on the market - says Piotr Piatosa, VP Telecommunications & Member of the Board, Comarch SA. • 11-2-10, to learn more about the Solutions for Satellite Service Providers

Open Flash-based user experiences to Java and Android mobile devices

Company Now Brings Flash® Experiences to the Majority of Mobile Operating Systems in the Market Including Android, Blackberry, Brew, Java, Linux, Symbian, and Windows Mobile

Bluestreak Technology Inc., the leader in open Flash® platforms for wired and wireless devices, today announced that the company’s MachBlue™ platform has expanded its device support to include new Java and Android powered mobile devices. As a result of this development, companies can now use MachBlue to deploy custom Adobe® Flash-based user interfaces, applications, and web services across the majority of mobile devices in the market today including phones running the Android, Blackberry, Brew, Java, Linux, Symbian, and Windows Mobile operating systems.

“One of the largest consumer complaints about the iPhone is its lack of Flash support,” said Julien Blin, JBB Research Principal Analyst and CEO. “Over 90% of consumers with Internet enabled computers access Flash. These consumers have come to expect the same graphically rich Flash-based experiences they enjoy on their computers to also be available on their mobile phones, regardless of device type. Bluestreak Technology’s support for new Java and Android devices benefits mobile operators, content companies, and developers who want to write visually appealing Flash powered applications once and then deploy them across the majority of mobile devices currently in market.”

“The recent success of phones like the Droid and the Nexus One has made Android one of the most popular new development platforms for mobile applications and demand is growing significantly. By expanding our addressable market base through support for new Android and Java devices, we offer our customers a way to use the power of Flash technology to differentiate their applications from the thousands that are currently available in market,” said Dominique Jodoin    , Bluestreak Technology CEO and President. “This MachBlue Java release sets new industry standards for fluidity of animations, processing speed, and efficient use of memory. It is the solution for deploying graphically rich Flash-based experiences on a wide variety of resource constrained mobile devices.”

The Java 2.0 edition of the MachBlue platform is being built using the Java MIDP 2.0 specification and is modular enough to support installations across Android, J2ME, J2SE, and RIM powered devices. This new Java release is significantly faster than the previous version and has improved runtime memory management for a more optimal and consistent level of performance. It also offers superior 3-D images and animation, including support for gradients, image scaling, full rotation, and vector graphics, and is compliant with ActionScript 2.0 and Flash 6.0. The edition also comes packaged with MachBlue Studio™, Bluestreak Technology’s award-winning application development kit. This release makes MachBlue the only platform that enables companies to easily customize their Flash experiences and deploy them across all Java mobile devices. • 16-2-10

A demonstration of the new Java 2.0 edition of the MachBlue platform can be seen at the Bluestreak Technology stand #2J55 in Hall 2 at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona, Spain, February 15-18, 2010. • Bluestreak Technology is the open Flash® platform leader for companies that want to create custom Adobe® Flash-based user interfaces, applications, and web services across a wide variety of wired and wireless devices. The company’s award-winning MachBlue™ platform extends the rich graphics that Flash is known for on the Web with the customization options necessary to overcome the unique constraints of set-top boxes, mobile phones, digital televisions, and other consumer electronic devices.
