Mobile World Congress 2009
Barcelona, 16-19 February

Preliminary Agenda

The Mobile World Congress 2009 will be influenced by two key themes that will firmly embed themselves in the strategies of telecoms companies across the globe. Open standards, open access, open development platforms and open source are all gathering pace and will converge to drive the first theme; the open mobile ecosystem.

The second theme is one that is common to industries the world over – the environmental impact brought about by their operation. Although there is an increasingly positive relationship between mobile usage and the society it impacts, it is clear that much needs to be done to maximise this potential to align business processes with a strategy for sustainability. These themes will primarily be addressed in the keynote sessions, but will be relevant to the event as a whole.

Further to these, the event will introduce three common streams as well as intensive, special focus sessions to address the pertinent industry topics that will run over the first two days of the event. The three common streams will focus on topics relevant to the technical development of advanced products and services, the relationship between mobile usage and the society around us and business strategies for growth and development. The special focus sessions will allow delegates and speakers a deep examination of location-based services, open source in mobile, Mobile 2.0 and M-Finance.

For the final day, the focus becomes even more concentrated as three topics —Entertainment, Advertising and Network Evolution— have each been allocated a dedicated stream. These will feature in-depth analysis, cutting edge debate and the very latest examples of best practice.
