WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE Hannover, 22-23 April 2008
At the third WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE at HANNOVER MESSE (the Hannover Fair) on 22 and 23 April 2008, experts from the energy industry, the public sector and the world of finance will be taking steps towards ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective supply of energy. WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE 2007 highlighted ways of significantly improving energy efficiency. Now, a series of rapid developments on the raw materials markets are helping to create innovative power plant solutions and forward-looking energy partnerships. Climate experts Dr. Klaus Töpfer and Stephan Kohler, Chief Executive of the German Energy Agency (dena) will chair the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE and host the congress.
The primary focus will be on the pressing challenges of climate protection and the massive demand for energy on growth markets such as China and India. The latest report on world energy issued by the International Energy Agency (IEA) warns in no uncertain terms that imports of oil and gas, and therefore CO2 emissions, will continue to rise until 2030 unless governments alter their policies now and companies begin to concentrate investment in more energy-efficient technologies.
The WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE is therefore at the very heart of a worldwide debate. The topics to be addressed in Hannover include globally available energy sources, international mega-trends in energy efficiency and decentralized power generation, plus low-CO2 power plant solutions. The potential of the technologies involved will be explored in depth, and as tangibly as possible. For the first time, the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE will take place in Hall 27, a location that puts this event at the very hub of the exhibition. In Hall 27, the three leading energy trade fairs are gathered together under one roof Energy, Power Plant Technology and Pipeline Technology. HANNOVER MESSE is the only trade fair that ensures equal representation of both conventional and renewable energies side-by-side, giving true insight into the energy mix of the future.
“HANNOVER MESSE is the world’s foremost technology event and therefore the ideal setting for debate on the global challenges we face today. The WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE provides the perfect opportunity for enriching, top-level knowledge- and opinion-sharing on the subject of climate-friendly, energy-efficient power plant technologies,” comments Sepp D. Heckmann, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe.
Speakers confirmed for WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE 2008 include:
Energy tradeshow Hannover, 21-25 April 2008
New: special display devoted to solar thermal energy • New trade show “Wind” makes its debut in 2009
Renewables will play a pivotal role in the coming years. Their share of the electricity generation market is growing fast. The trade show “Energy” at HANNOVER MESSE is the world’s leading platform for renewable energy. Staged jointly by Deutsche Messe, the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) and the German Wind Energy Federation (BWE), the display category “Renewables” (Hall 13) will be extended and enhanced in 2008.
As in past years the line-up will include leading wind energy specialists such as Enercon, Vestas and Fuhrländer. This year there will also be increased emphasis on bio energy and solar energy as evidenced in the presence of major players like Schmack Biogas, MT Energy, Haase GFK Technik and Envitec.
“Energy” (Halls 13 and 27) will mirror the boom in solar energy technology, especially in export markets. Exhibitors such as the Sharp Corporation (which has booked a display area of 500 square metres) will demonstrate their outstanding capabilities. The German-Japanese Photovoltaic Forum a new event will generate additional publicity for the solar energy sector. Japan is the Partner Country at HANNOVER MESSE 2008.
A further highlight is Solar Gigawatt in Hall 27, where the spotlight will be on solar-thermal generating systems. This new display will create a thematic link between “Renewables” and “Power Plant Technology”. Making its debut in 2008, “Power Plant Technology” focuses on the design, operation and maintenance of power stations i.e. on the entire value chain.
Deutsche Messe has developed Solar Gigawatt in collaboration with the Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy Cooperation (TREC), the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), the Jülich Solar Institute and the Club of Rome.
In 2008 wind energy will figure prominently in the context of the display category “Renewables”. In 2009, however, Deutsche Messe will launch the stand-alone presentation “Wind” under the umbrella of “Energy”. In subsequent years “Wind” will alternate with “HUSUMWindEnergy” (formerly known as “HusumWind”) held in the North German coastal town of Husum.
In recent years “Energy” has developed into a central meeting place for the international energy industry. Visitors also derive enormous benefit from the supporting program for example, from the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE. In 2008 this high-profile conference will centre on the “Future of power plants and grids”. A further highlight will be the “Industry and Export Forum Renewable Energy” organized by the German Energy Agency (dena). last year’s event attracted an audience of 2,000, making it one of best-attended forums at HANNOVER MESSE. Energy-efficient mobility solutions will be on show at Clean Moves Expo (Hall 27). •
WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE Hannover, 22-23 April 2008
2008 is a crunch year for the international energy industry. Climate change, rising demand for energy and dwindling fossil fuel resources are forcing the nations of the world to look at re-engineering their power stations and power grids. Energy industry leaders and high-level government representatives will be taking up this debate at the 3rd WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE, to be held in Hall 27 at HANNOVER MESSE on 22 and 23 April. Discussions on the keynote theme “Power Plants and Networks of the Future” will explore concrete ways in which innovative power plant design and intelligent networks can promote sustainable economic development and climate protection.
Climate expert Professor Klaus Töpfer, Chairman of the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE: “In view of current economic and ecological constraints, it is imperative that we achieve a quantum leap in energy efficiency on worldwide scale. This imperative applies to all links in the energy production and supply chain. German companies in particular have made some key advances in power plant efficiency. We must now build on this by increasing the level of cogeneration in the energy mix and forging ahead with the efficient rollout of as yet still experimental CCS technologies. At the same time, the whole of Europe needs to invest in new energy networks capable of handling energy from distributed generation and doing so efficiently and cost-effectively.”
Stephan Kohler, Chairman of the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE and CEO of the German Energy Agency (dena), explains that re-designing the world’s energy supply infrastructure is more than just a technological challenge: “Ambitious targets for greenhouse gas reduction and renewables expansion are the right responses to challenges of the future like climate protection and sustainable economic development. Here, too, Germany is setting a proud example. But the task now is for governments and the business community to resolutely implement the necessary measures and generate widespread public acceptance for this. If this does not happen, we risk disastrous delays in the construction of new power stations and networks.”
Among the speakers at the 2008 WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE 2008 are:
The 2007 WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE gave rise to a number of forward-looking initiatives that have the potential to significantly enhance energy efficiency. Rapidly upward-spiraling world commodity prices now demand innovative power station solutions and robust energy partnerships.
HANNOVER MESSE combines all aspects of renewable and conventional energy generation, transmission, distribution and utility management under one roof. And this year, for the first time, it features three energy-related tradeshows: Energy, Power Plant Technology and Pipeline Technology. •
