MADRID • May 2012
VETECO, PIEDRA and CONSTRUTEC, the three large IFEMA events linked to the world of construction, will take place for the first time under the umbrella of a single project, thus helping to provide a boost for the industry
IFEMA has set up INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK, a grand event that is due to take place between 8th and 12th May 2012 and has been designed to bring together three leading fairs within their respective sectors: the Building Exhibition, CONSTRUTEC; the International Window, Curtain Wall and Structural Glass Trade Show, VETECO; and the International Natural Stone Fair, PIEDRA.
The staging of INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK for the first time in Madrid aims to provide an effective forum for promotion and marketing, one that is able to provide a boost for the sectors it represents at a moment that is especially crucial within the current economic climate.
This event, which will pool the assets of three strongly established fairs, seeks to provide a tool that will serve the commercial interests of these industries, generating synergies and opportunities that offer a sense of added value for both the participating companies and professionals from the field of construction.
Although this joint project has been developed to achieve these key objectives and boost the marketing clout of the sectors in question, the organisers have also sought to preserve the identity of the fairs that make up INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK, all of which have been operating for a number of years: VETECO since 1990, PIEDRA since 1996 and CONSTRUTEC since 2002.
In this respect, the WEEK will be able to boost their positioning whilst also catering for the specific interests of each sector through the fair's own Organising Committees, made up of the leading bodies and companies within each respective industry.
The Consulting Committee
In order to complement the work carried out by the Organising Committees, a Consulting Committee has been set up that aims to become a key point of reference for the industry by pooling efforts and coordinating joint measures for the FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK. The Consulting Committee seeks to serve as a key and highly representative body, with Rafael Fernández, President of the Spanish Confederation of Building Product Manufacturer Associations, CEPCO, serving as Chairman, alongside other key members: Luis Rodulfo, Managing Director of CEPCO; Francisco Ruano, Executive Vice-President of the Association of Madrid Construction Companies of Madrid, AECOM; Manuel Pose, Chairman of the Spanish Association of Light Façade and Window Manufacturers, ASEFAVE and Pablo Martín, Head for this association; José Manuel Galindo, Chairman of the Association of Property Developers of Madrid, ASPRIMA; Elsa Salvadores, Head of Foreign Trade of Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry; José Francisco Gómez, Treasurer of the Governing Body of the Official College of Architects of Madrid; Ciro Fernández, Deputy Secretary of the Governing Body of the Official College of Architects of Madrid; Javier Cobián, Dean-President of the Official College of Decorators, Designers and Interior Architects of Madrid; Juan F. Lazcano, President of the National Building Confederation, CNC; Manuel Sánchez, President of the Spanish Natural Stone Federation, FDP, and the Manager for this Federation, Gerardo Burón; José Luis Sanz, General Secretary of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid; Enrique Corral, General Director of the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción (Building Work Foundation), and Santiago Mendioroz, Territorial Director of the Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX) in Madrid. This project also enjoys the active support and participation of different administrative bodies, represented on the Consulting Committee by the following figures: Javier Serra, Assistant Head of Building Innovation and Quality at the Ministry for Development; Antonio Muñoz, the Technical Advisor at the CE Marking Office at the Department of Industry; Alberto Sabido, the Head of the Mitigation and Technology Department at the Spanish Climate Change Office (OECC) at the Ministry for the Environment; Juan Van Halen, Head of Housing and Renovation at the Madrid Regional Government; and Juan José de Gracia, General Coordinator for Town-Planning, Housing and Public Works at Madrid City Council.
Key Objectives: Boosting Activity Levels and Internationalisation
In order to ensure the success of the FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK, the Consulting Committee will pursue a number of key objectives, such as the implementation of measures that help to create a business forum for boosting activity levels within the industry and promoting the international projection of companies, encouraging them to enter and explore new markets.
Both of these objectives are very much in line with the strategies being pursued within the construction industry itself.
A decisive factor in this approach consists of the support of both the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) and that of CEPCO, whose Internationalisation Plan for Construction Materials was very warmly welcomed within the framework of the last edition of CONSTRUTEC in 2010.
Another of the aspects that will help to ensure that CONSTRUCTION WEEK makes a favourable impact on the industry consists of the organisation of a single Specialised Conference Programme, whose contents and format will be decided by the Consulting Committee.
The Programme will feature the participation of all the different representatives involved in the various sectors represented. In order provide an added boost for the WEEK's goals, a wide-ranging promotion and communication campaign will be carried out, based on the activation of an entire series of effective communication channels within the industry: the attendance of the leading media bodies and publications, the use of social networking sites, websites, newsletters, etc.
The event will also take advantage of a series of technological tools such as the Trade Meeting-Point, the Appointments Diary, Bar Code Readers and Online Invitations. Seven halls at Feria de Madrid will provide the setting for INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION WEEK, which will be distributed as follows: CONSTRUTEC will take place in Hall 7; VETECO will be staged in Halls 4, 6, 8 and 10; and PIEDRA will occupy Halls 3 and 5. The fairground will maintain connections between all the halls in order to facilitate visitor access, in addition to the main North and South entrances. • Agosto 2011
DOMOTEX HANNOVER 2010 • 16-19 de enero
DOMOTEX HANNOVER 2010 – the leading international trade fair for carpets and floor coverings – will see the addition of a new display category “Ceramic tiles”.
Tile manufacturers focussing on contract business will be able to showcase their latest range of tiles here, thereby targeting the lucrative contracting sector more effectively and strengthening their market position.
The new display enjoys an ideal location at contractworld – the meeting-place for architects and interior designers in Hall 4 – and is a logical and valuable extension of the DOMOTEX exhibition program.
Tile manufacturers will benefit from the international reputation of DOMOTEX, which attracts large numbers of professional visitors. In short, it is a place where exhibitors can be confident of making new international contacts and finding new sales opportunities.
The concept of a separate trade fair for ceramic tiles – held parallel to DOMOTEX HANNOVER – was presented at the start of the year. The proposals were welcomed and supported by leading market players and trade associations from Germany, Italy and Spain, i.e. the countries that dominate this market segment.
As Stephan Ph. Kühne, Board member of Deutsche Messe AG, reports: “Several market leaders had even confirmed their intention of participating at the event. As the year progressed, however, it became evident that the global economic crisis had seriously exacerbated the difficulties being experienced by the trade.
For this reason the decision to create a separate trade fair for tiles has been put on ice for the time being and will be re-assessed in discussions with leading manufacturers in spring 2010.” • Exhibition at contractworld in Hall 4
