Fresh-cut convenience has taken on dramatic new importance for the food-service sector in Europe and the US, says Jon Wright, HoReCa Research Director at Plant Retail, who will give all the facts and figures on the scale of the food-service market for fresh-cut convenience in Europe and the US.
Mr Wright will be joined by McDonalds UK supply chain director, Dean McKenna, in a session which will give fresh-cut professionals and buyers hard facts about the development of this category in the food-service sector at the first-ever FRESHCONEX Congress.
It takes place in Berlin Germany on 6 February 2008 on the eve of FRESHCONEX, Europe’s first dedicated fresh-cut convenience trade show at which companies from 14 countries will be showcasing their products.

The demands on fresh-cut suppliers to food-service companies will be one of the two main areas of focus for Dean McKenna, Supply Chain Director for McDonalds UK, who will be addressing the FRESHCONEX Congress on 6 February 2008 in Berlin Germany. The other area will be insights into what McDonalds sees as growth opportunities for the future in this sector.
This one-day event brings together speakers and top-level panellists from across Europe and the US to offer fresh-cut professionals and buyers insights into the developments into the sector, the trends that are shaping the future and the opportunities for growth.
As one of the speakers at the upcoming FRESHCONEX Congress, Ed Garner, research director at TNS Worldpanel, will be presenting and analysing the latest numbers on fresh-cut convenience sales at retail in key markets in Europe including the UK, Benelux, Germany and France.
Mr Garner will be just one of the top-level speakers and panelists at the one-day congress focused exclusively on fresh-cut convenience products that is taking place on 6 February 2008 in Berlin, Germany.
Bill Davies, fruit buyer for Marks and Spencer, will be explaining to FRESHCONEX Congress delegates from all over the world how one of the UK’s most innovative food retailers has developed a reputation for unparalleled quality and product development in the fresh-cut convenience sector.
Mr Davies will form part of a top-level panel at FRESHCONEX Congress, which will be discussing how to add more value at all points in the fresh-cut convenience supply chain. The congress event, which takes place on 6 February 2008 in Berlin, Germany, is focused entirely on the fresh-cut convenience sector and precedes FRESHCONEX, the Europe’s first trade fair dedicated to this sector.
Under the welcome banner “Bienvenue au cœur des saveurs Northern France‚ The Lille Region”, Nord-Pas de Calais takes part in the 2008 event of FRUIT LOGISTICA in Berlin. Twenty or so regional agro-food companies will present their know-how and products there from 7 to 9 February.
Should there still be a need to do so, the Fruit Logistica event is confirming its position as the major international meeting place for the « Fruit and vegetable » trade. With double-figure growth in the number of exhibitors and in the show’s floor area, the trade fair has been updated so as to welcome the numerous visitors expected in 2008.

Already being the first region in France for the production of French endives and potatoes, Nord-Pas de Calais is now in the 3rd place nationally for vegetable production (fresh vegetables and vegetables for tinning).
Located at the heart of the European “prosperity” triangle‚ London-Paris-Brussels‚ this region also has major logistic assets such as 3 very large sea ports.
With the above-mentioned strength‚ Nord-Pas de Calais region is naturally well-established as a major French agro-food region at the Berlin trade fair.
In 2008‚ 21 companies and associations are exhibiting their products or services at the stand: 320 m2 in the regional pavilion (compared with 16 in 2007 at a 217 m2 stand):

Fruit Logistica 2008 will be the first trade fair supported by Département Salons Internationaux (DSI) of the International Chamber of Commerce & Industry within the scope of the 2007-2010 convention signed by the Nord-Pas de Calais Regional Council and this network.
This convention‚ dedicated to the internationalisation of companies‚ is unique in France thanks to its formulation‚ organisation and governance. Its aim is to best satisfy the needs and expectations of companies‚ and hinges on 4 principles‚ including a presence at foreign trade fairs such as Fruit Logistica.
The companies eligible to participate at the regional pavilion will therefore be subsidised by the Regional Council up to 50% of their exhibiting costs‚ and will be assisted by the International Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Comité de Promotion Nord-Pas de Calais in their endeavours.
It would be reminded that the Nord-Pas de Calais regional chamber of agriculture and its Comité de Promotion have co-operated since June 2005 in Norcomex, which evolved into CCI International in January 2007.
Regional agro-food companies therefore have good assistance available to help them succeed on an international stage.
